— Where and when will this lecture happen?

This is a single 3-hour online class in English transmitted via Zoom on Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 3 pm to 6:15 pm UTC. The whole lecture will be recorded and uploaded on YouTube as a private video available to all registrants permanently. 

This class is a preparation for the 15-hour course on colored pencils which is planned to open for registration soon and whose classes must start in November. However, registrants in this single previous class are not obliged to sign up for the whole course. Likewise, students who plan to enroll in the whole course are not obliged to sign up for this single previous class.

Notice though that registrants in this lecture that decide to enroll in the whole course in November will have the value paid for the lecture discounted from the price of the course, whereas registrants only in the whole class will pay the total amount without discount, and will be given access to the recording of this lecture.

No, anyone can participate, regardless of previous experience with this technique.


— Do registrants need to have materials to participate?

No, the discussion will involve the choice of material too, helping those who intend to purchase it.


— I have the materials, can I follow the class hands-on? 

Yes, feel free to work along with the demos, but the tutor will not be able to assess your work or offer a critique, except during the full course which is not released yet.


— What technological apparatus do I need?

You must have the application Zoom installed (on any device with internet access)

Detailed information on this lecture's content

In this class, we will:

Explore the physical aspects of colored pencils in their dry modality (without solvents) and how to obtain the best result. 

Understand the importance of choosing the best paper’s texture for our own individual style and of maintaining our pencils always sharp. 

Learn to work softly and gradually to capture the correct contrast and precise strength of light and shade, and also avoid damaging the paper. 

Examine the use of the colorless blender and discover the advantage of lighter colors overlapping darker ones. 

Comprehend the importance of planning which should be the first and last color in the layering sequence, and how different is the resultant color depending on the order of layering.

Approach and represent colors by detecting first their general aspects regarding temperature, vibrance, and position in the color wheel.

Assess the convenience of using colored or toned papers and understand how they participate in the color building. 

Explore methods to detect, represent and match multiple colors appearing on every subject with all their subtle variations.
